The James River District Youth Council has been busy serving the Lord as we live out our mission statement as best we can:
Our purpose is to spread His Word through worship and missions in the district and around the world.
We started 2015 with a winter retreat at the Blackstone Conference and Retreat Center in February with Kevin Anderson as our keynote. Funny thing: Due to high winds, the lights went out during our candlelight service and didn’t come back on until after our final Saturday night service. We learned that “unplugging” gives us the opportunity to let Jesus shine as our Superhero!
Elections were held in April for the 2015-2016 year. Our members are:
Chair: Heather Brockwell; Co-Chair: Alex Flickinger; Secretary: Casie Slaybaugh;
YSF Chair: Jordan Short – Committee: Brandon Cardwell and Ben Bonnell;
CCYM: Maggie Miller, Jacob Murdock, Tiarra Collins; Historian: Kayla Short;
Web Master: Ruthie Higgins; Missions: Matthew Chappell; Sergeant-at-arms: Tommy Dail;
Members-at-large: Andrew Honn, Jaclyn Carpenter, Lauren Titmus, Sierra Peterson
We enjoyed our 2nd annual youth cook-out in May. Those who attended had a great time of food and fellowship in true Methodist fashion.
On the way to the DYC planning retreat in August, we stopped at the Stop Hunger Now warehouse and helped them by washing containers, labeling bags, and reconfiguring the warehouse set-up. Once we arrived at the Williamsburg Conference and Retreat Center, the DYC worked on retreat planning, Bible study, and team building activities.
Our fall retreat at Camp Willow Run was a success! The weather tried to dampen our time, but spirits remained high, and we enjoyed Raymond Easter as keynote, Turner Wilkes as worship leader, and learning about finishing the race set before us.
Later this year we will be feeding the homeless as a service project. We will also continue the planning process for the winter retreat scheduled for February 12-14, 2016. Click on the link below for information on the retreat. Youth – come join us!
