Welcome to the James River District!
We are 83 churches covering approximately 3,000 square miles from Chesterfield to Emporia, along the North Carolina line to Suffolk and back up the James River.
The purpose of the James River District is to help, “Disciples Make Disciples,” by providing leadership, resources, and training to equip each church to fulfill its mission of “Making disciples for the transformation of the world.”
The District’s two areas of focus are the revitalization of local churches and the formation of new faith communities. Our goal is to help each church discern God’s call to:
* See itself as the body of Christ.
* Have a vibrant sense of faith, hope and love.
* Embrace and give space for the sacred.
* Have a sense of God’s purpose, presence and power.
* Be not afraid to serve God in its own way.
We agree that the challenge before us is how to help our churches witness in a brave new world. Also, is the risky call for all of us to move out of our comfort zones of doing what we know to truly seeking the new thing God wants to do to and through our churches. I am excited about the possibilities where this discussion is leading us.
I consider it a joy to serve our Lord as the District Superintendent and missional strategist of the James River District!
